A free video editing application. This is a bare-bones version of Avid, one of the most powerful and widely used video editing platforms in professional editing.

* Microsoft Photo Story 3.0

Tutorials

* Introduction to Windows Movie Maker 2

This tutorial designed by the Information School at the University of Texas takes you thru the basics of using Movie Maker 2 including functions, settings, and tools, how to capture or import video, pictures, audio or music, how to edit a movie, add effects/transitions, title/credits, and narration, and how and in what formats to save your movie. A video and PDF version of the tutorial is also available.

* Windows Movie Makers site

This site is visually confounding, but there is a wealth of information available, including a huge collection of tutorials and forums to browse and transitions available to download.

* Papa John’s Movie Maker 2 site

Like the above site, the design of the page will make you disoriented, but the information and advice contained within is useful and usually easy to follow. The page’s author is a Microsoft “Most Valuable Professional” and is active on the Windows Movie Makers site forums.

* iMovie HD

This tutorial designed by the Information School at the University of Texas covers how to use the interface, menus, and tools, import video from a DV camcorder, build a movie by selecting and trimming your video clips, add transitions, titles, and effects, import and edit photos and audio, and export your project to iDVD 5. Video and PDF versions of the tutorial are available.
